MEIKO Green Waste Solution v Singapurju: When Waste Becomes a Resource for the Future

During a visit to Singapore, we saw MEIKO GREEN Waste Solutions in operation at Pan Pacific Orchard Singapore. It offered a striking example of how a hotel can treat kitchen waste as a resource and make waste management part of its everyday operations.

Waste—or a source of value?

In a conventional kitchen, food waste can be both a cost and a logistical challenge. MEIKO GREEN Waste Solutions takes a different approach: organic waste is collected and processed into biomass that can be used for further treatment, including biogas production where the appropriate facilities are available.

This gives food scraps a potential use beyond the kitchen and can reduce the amount of organic waste sent to landfill. It also encourages hotels and restaurants to think about waste management as part of how they use resources.

What does this mean for hospitality?

Solutions like this show how sustainability can be built into daily kitchen processes. Managing food waste more effectively can improve working conditions and create opportunities to recover value from material that would otherwise be discarded.

What stayed with us from the visit was a simple change in perspective: when we see food scraps as a resource, we begin to ask what they can become next.
